Data Security and Availability

FMS receives real-time data, relayed through the Iridium network at its Network Operations Center (NOC) in San Luis Obispo, California. The FMS back-end, known as Fleet Director Global, allows enterprise users to conveniently log onto a hosted Internet portal to retrieve and interpret information about their assets. Data access is customer controlled through password security using SSL sessions for data encryption.

Network Operation Center

The nerve center for FMS’ network operations is located in a secure, environmentally controlled data center, manned and operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is continuously monitored by skilled technicians. From this operations center, FMS remotely performs equipment and operations surveillance. The facility is secured by biometric sensors, CCTV, battery and generator backup, 2-OC48, GigE, FastE, and VESDA technologies. The facility includes dry piping fire suppression, cold spare servers, and four hour on-site parts replacement.

Performance and Scalability

FMS servers are state-of-the-art Intel equipment and built to withstand any single point of failure, utilizing RAID drives, dual Intel processors and redundant power supplies. The FMS database, Web, map, and development servers are constantly monitored for network and application load balancing and are sized accordingly. The FMS network is currently capable of supporting more than 100,000 subscribers simultaneously accessing the system without degradation in speed or accuracy. FMS’ strategy is to continuously upgrade its network equipment every 180 days in order to ensure its ability to support the current subscriber load as well as the number of expected subscribers six months in the future.
